LONE WOLF, Oklahoma -- A fire that forced hundreds of children to evacuate their summer camp sites near Quartz Mountain was brought mostly under control Thursday morning.

A spokesman for the Red Cross said that most of the campers had been picked up from emergency shelters set up in Hobart.

Firefighters remain on the scene to monitor hot spots.  National Guard helicopters will be dropping water on the mountain to help put out those hot spots and prevent any more fires from sparking.

The fire started Sunday when a bolt of lightning hit a power pole on top of Quartz mountain and by Tuesday was fully engulfed.

It threatened two church camps, forcing hundreds of young campers to evacuate to nearby churches in Hobart.

Despite the extent of the fire, there were no reported injuries.

Kiowa County emergency management officials said the fire didn't cause any significant property damage because of the rocky terrain on the mountain.
