NORMAN, Oklahoma – The University of Oklahoma announced Sunday that the Sooners will face Iowa in the Insight Bowl on Dec. 30.
The Sooners could have advanced to a BCS bowl if they had won Bedlam, but a 44-10 loss to Oklahoma State ended that possibility. OU finished No. 14 in the final BCS rankings.
The Insight Bowl gets the fourth pick of Big 12 teams, meaning both the Cotton and Alamo Bowls passed on the Sooners. The Cotton Bowl selected Kansas State, which finished second in the conference, and the Alamo Bowl picked Baylor.
Iowa (7-5, 4-4) finished tied for sixth in the Big Ten, but is looking for its fourth consecutive bowl win. The Hawkeyes won the Insight Bowl last season, the Orange Bowl in 2010 and the Outback Bowl in 2009.
OU and Iowa have faced each other just once before; the Sooners won that game 21-6 in 1979. Current OU head coach Bob Stoops played for Iowa during that game. The Insight Bowl will be played at 9 p.m. on Dec. 30 in Tempe, Arizona.
