Oklahoma State freshman point guard Marcus Smart has been named to the midseason All-America team by Sporting News.
"Smart is perhaps the most versatile player in college basketball," said Mike DeCourcy, college basketball columnist for Sporting News. "He scores (14.0), rebounds (5.5) and passes (4.7 assists) at a high level. Efficiency aficionados lately have conceded Smart's accuracy as a shooter — 51.8 percent from the field, 41.7 percent on threes — has improved enough of late for them to appreciate him as well. Most important, Smart has transformed the culture at OK State. The Cowboys didn't win their 11th game last season until the final day of January. He has made them winners."
Other players on the first team include Michigan sophomore Trey Burke, Kansas freshman Ben McLemore, Creighton junior Doug McDermott, and Duke senior Mason Plumlee.
