Native Oklahoman and Senior Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, Honorable William J. Holloway Jr., passed away Friday morning at the age of 90.

Holloway was born in Hugo, OK in 1923. He is the son of the late Governor and Mrs. William J. Holloway. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Holloway graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1947 and received his law degree from Harvard in 1950.

Holloway began his law career in 1950 with a private practice in Oklahoma City. In 1951 he served as an Attorney for General Litigation Section in the Claims Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C. In 1952, Holloway returned to private practice in Oklahoma City.

On August 2nd, 1968, Holloway was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit by President Lyndon B. Johnson. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 13th, 1968, and received his commission on September 16th, 1968. He served as chief judge from 1984 to 1991 and assumed senior status on May 31, 1992.

Judge Holloway married Helen Hoehn from Enid, Oklahoma in 1963. They have a son, William J. Holloway III, and a daughter, Eleanor Gentry Holloway. Judge Holloway was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, the American Law Institute, and the American, Oklahoma, Oklahoma County, and Federal Bar Associations.
