Freshman Seth Paxton of Oklahoma State University is bringing a debate over wind energy tax subsidies in Oklahoma to the national stage. A report he produced on the issue has netted him a $10,000 scholarship and a trip to New York City.

The Tuttle native is the winner of the 2014 Fox News Channel College Challenge. The TV news report contest is open to virtually any undergraduate student in the United States. The experience has given Paxton a chance to tell his story to a much larger audience with the help of the cable network.

"I thought my chances were slim to none," said Paxton during an interview with News 9.

Pazton explored the cost of wind turbines to taxpayers versus actual wealth they create in terms of jobs and payments to landowners. He is studying economics at the Stillwater campus. He told News 9 law school is a possibility but so is TV news.

Over the years, 11 reports have been recognized, including one submitted by Ball State University graduate and current News 9 reporter Michael Konopasek and his friend Zachary Perlinski.
