Tulsa -

As the start of early voting nears in Oklahoma, one Tulsa couple wants to make sure that all Tulsans have an equal opportunity in getting to the polls to vote.

Tommy Yap and his husband started the Tulsa Voter Van earlier in 2020 with the goal of helping voters get to the polls, as they believe that Tulsa is a car-focused city.

According to Yap, they gave rides to voters during the primary and mayoral races, but they sought out more volunteers to prepare for a higher turnout in the presidential election.

The Tulsa Voter Vans will have multiple vehicles shuttling people to and from the polling place from Thursday through Saturday for early voting and again on Election Day.

Yap said that the drivers of the vans are told not to talk politics while driving.

"Sometimes, if the driver is comfortable answering questions about the ballot or answering questions about the process, such as 'I don't have my voter card, do you know if I can use my ID', that kind of question we'll answer,” said yap.

Voter Van Drivers will clean their vehicle after each voter has been dropped off to ensure COVID-19 safety.
