A car crashed into a pole at North May and Northwest Expressway and then caught fire with a man inside on Sunday night. A probable cause affidavit said the driver is suspected of driving under the influence.

Emergency crews had little time to try and save a person who was still in the car. That person is fighting for their life while the driver faces several complaints. The passenger firefighters rescued suffered burns covering over 75% of his body.

Investigators said the driver is 30-year-old Luis Xivir Coyoy. According to a probable cause affidavit, Coyoy ran from the crash. After officers arrested him, they found out he had no driver's license.

Coyoy told officers he had several drinks at a nearby bar moments before the crash. According to investigators, Coyoy’s field sobriety test results showed impairment and he refused a breath test after.

Coyoy had a prior arrest warrant for DUI in October of last year according to court records. The person crews rescued is at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in critical condition.  Investigators said another person ran away from this crash, but there is no update on that person at this time.
