A woman is behind bars after leading officers on a pursuit last night, police said.
It ended after the suspect crashed into another driver on the metro’s southeast side.
They said the suspect's car crashed near SE 59 and Interstate 35.
According to reports, they received information about a stolen car which they spotted around 8:30 p.m. in a Valley Brook parking lot near SE 89th and I-35
“When they tried to stop and talk to the person in the vehicle, the vehicle sped away,” said Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight.
Officers said the speeds got up to 80 mph. The pursuit continued east on SE 59 Street as police were able to use stop sticks to stop the driver.
“After the tires deflated, the car went on for another couple hundred yards before crashing into the rear of another vehicle,” said Knight.
Surveillance video captured from a nearby business shows the suspect's car coming into frame from left to right as it crashes into that other vehicle. Police said the driver hit multiple parked cars as well. The driver hit was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.
“The driver that was the suspect was also transported to a hospital just to make sure they were OK before being booked into jail,” said Knight.
Police said the stolen vehicle was out of Purcell.
Kimberly Ann Franklin, 48, was arrested and is being held at the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of unauthorized use of a vehicle, eluding police, and driving under the influence.
Knight said it's fortunately no one else was hit.
“The main thing about these pursuits is that they can be extremely dangerous and this one was no different,” said Knight. “Thankfully, no one got seriously injured.”
Police said Franklin had a previous warrant for another stolen vehicle.
