Filmmakers Choose Oklahoma For Movie

GUTHRIE, Oklahoma -- Hollywood has moved to Oklahoma, as the upcoming film, "The Killer Inside Me" plans casting calls and schedules filming throughout the state.

Filmmakers have good reason to choose Oklahoma to begin their movies, including competitive rebate incentives and tax breaks for big films and the charm of that state's small towns.

Lindsay Roe, who works in downtown Guthrie, is hoping to land a spot as an extra.

"Guthrie is such a cute town," Roe said. "A lot of people don't know what it has to offer."

Some people have already filled out applications online, but others like Roe plan to show her talents in an open casting call at Guthrie Junior High.

The flick will hold two open casting calls:

Saturday, March 7
10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Guthrie Junior High School
700 E Oklahoma Avenue
Guthrie, OK

Sunday, March 8
1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Washita County Activity Center
700 E 3 Street
Cordell, OK

When filming begins, the clock will turn back to the 1950s, which means a special wardrobe, and more importantly possible hair cuts to match the period.

Many of the buildings to be used in the film are owned by Larry Ladd, who said the production company doesn't pay great, despite what he expected.

For every dollar spent in Oklahoma in production, almost $2 ends up in the local economy," said Oklahoma Film Commissioner Jill Simpson.

Extras will make $6.55 an hour, but there are plenty who would do it for free.

People who film in Oklahoma can qualify for up to a 17 percent rebate depending on how much they spend in Oklahoma dollars.

Filmmakers plan to shoot in Oklahoma City, Guthrie, Enid, Tulsa and Cordell.
