The Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is at critical capacity.

“We really need our community to understand at this point in time, they should avoid at all costs bringing a dog into our building,” Jon Gary, Oklahoma City Animal Shelter superintendent, said.

Gary says at the current rate the shelter is taking in dogs, the chance of a stray being put on the euthanasia list is high.

Instead, Gary recommends trying to find its owner first. The animal welfare website also recommends posting found pets’ pictures online, posting flyers and checking for a microchip ID. If the pet has an Oklahoma City rabies tag or a numbered OKC Animal Welfare tattoo, call (405) 297-3100 or email awinfo@okc.gov.
