The Memorial Marathon weekend is here in Oklahoma City.

We run to celebrate just how far our city has come, how we came together after April 19th, 1995, and to honor the 168 lives lost.

News 9’s Addie Crawford sat down with a victim's daughter who explained how much this weekend means to those affected.

Sara Sweet was a senior at OSU when her father, Steve Williams was killed on the first floor of the Murrah Federal Building. She says the city support on race day means the world to those who lost.

“Hearing people out, and cheering. What it says to me is that they want this race and that, that this race doesn't just mean something to us, family members who lost someone but to our whole city,” Sara explained.

Sara says her family were never runners before but took on the challenge when the races first started in 2001. Sarah remembers running one year when the weather was brutal but seeing her father's name on a bib made the miles just a little bit easier.

“I saw a lady in front of me who was wearing in memory of and she had my dad's name and I didn't know who she was and it just, I mean, it gave me that little bit of energy. I needed to finish,” Sara said.

Sara says this is the first year she won't be running due to an injury, but she'll be cheering on her children who are running the relay in honor of her dad, Steve Williams.
