Coming up in May, Upward Transitions is holding its annual fundraising event called American Tourist.

During the evening of food, drinks, and auctions, attendees can directly contribute to Upward Transitions' mission to eradicate homelessness in our metro community.

Periann Pulliam with Upward Transitions joined News 9 on the Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to discuss the event further.

Upward Transitions is a local organization working to put an end to generational poverty through several programs.

They help individuals experiencing homelessness regain their identity with legal documents such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, and state IDs as well as families at risk of losing housing with rent and utilities.

Pulliam said the event has been going on for 20 years and is used as a fundraiser for their programming.

This year the event's theme is New Orleans and will take place at the Oklahoma City Farmers Public Market on May 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
