A Sperry man says he has nearly a dozen bullet holes in the side of his house after police were called by someone else to take care of stray dogs in his yard.

He says police killed the two dogs, which belonged to his neighbor, and two of his turkeys.

Duane Nutt says he’s frustrated because he doesn’t think this was the right way to respond to the call, but he’s grateful no one was hurt.

Sperry Police responded to a home because the caller said two stray dogs were attacking chickens in a backyard Friday morning.

Nutt lives at the home with his girlfriend and her 18-year-old daughter.

"We came in the house, and I noticed a bullet hole through my bedroom door," said Nutt. "And so we started counting holes, and there's 11 holes through my house."

Nutt's frustrated something like this could happen.

"Not real happy," said Nutt. "Especially considering her teenage daughter was asleep not 20 feet away from that. And under normal circumstances, I would have been right in the line of fire."

Nutt says that based on the time of day, he would have normally been in that spot shaving or brushing his teeth.

However, on Friday morning, he was running errands.

"Had I been standing there, I'd have had a couple of holes in my legs anyway," said Nutt.

He understands during some calls, homes could get damaged but he thinks this one could have been avoided.

"It would be different if there was a human life at stake," said Nutt. "That's a whole different situation. But a chicken and a dog? Is that worth an 18-year-old's life?"

Nutt says the Sperry Police Department told him they would pay for the damage to the house.

News On 6 asked Sperry Police about what happened, they told us they did not want to comment.
