Ballet Under The Stars: A Night Of Classical And Contemporary Dance In OKC

This Friday Oklahoma City Ballet will bring their performance to Scissor Tail Park for ballet under the stars.

“Our dancers come from all over the world to work and live here in Oklahoma City, they’re full-time employees of our organization,” said Whitney Cross, director of development and communications with Oklahoma City Ballet.

This Friday the dancers will show off their skills at Scissor Tail Park for free.

“Ballet under the stars will feature both classical and contemporary dance, you’ll see a little bit of everything. We’ll have our professional dancers, you see some of our students, we’ll even have some children from boys and girls clubs,” said Cross.

The big event is the kickoff to a big season for Oklahoma City Ballet.

“We’ll start our Civic center season in October with Hamlet, followed by the Nutcracker of course in December,” said Cross.

 The ballet under the stars show starts at seven, but Cross says the real fun starts earlier.

“Family friendly festivities starting at five thirty, including a dance class for all ages and abilities,” said Cross.

The dance class is for everyone, because Oklahoma City ballet realized at previous events, there wasn’t just dancing on the stage.

“We saw so many kids dancing along with our dancers, so we thought we would go ahead and formalize it and give them a little bit of instruction,” said Cross.  

Bring lawn chairs and blankets and the family for all the free fun.

“There be food vendors, there’ll be some food trucks, beer trucks, and of course Spark restaurant over here, or bring your own picnic,” said Cross.

Just four years into the event it is already exceeding expectations.

“We have had three to five thousand people come out in the past and we are watching the weather closely,” said Cross.
