An Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper is expected to be okay after his patrol vehicle was struck by an alleged impaired driver Wednesday morning.

It’s the second metro trooper hit by an alleged drunk driver in the past four months. And this time it wasn't the drivers' first DUI,

An OHP spokesman said Trooper Preston Cox was watching for speeders on the Broadway Extension when in the rear-view mirror, he saw 23-year-old Chandler Parrish’s car swerve off the highway.

“He tried to get his vehicle in drive and accelerate and he just couldn’t do it fast enough and the driver struck the back of his patrol car,” Trooper Eric Foster said,

Foster said this isn't Parrish’s first DUI. He's now charged with “DUI causing great bodily injury” and “DUI: second felony offense.”

Cox was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries. Over the Summer, Trooper Foster was also hit by an alleged drunk driver.

“It does make you look in rearview mirror a little bit harder,” Foster said. “It’s very much an epidemic there’s absolutely no reason to drive impaired, there’s absolutely no reason for that.”

Foster said DUI's and wrong way crashes are on the rise across the metro.

“That little bit of time of having just a relaxation could cost you your life could cost you time behind bars prison time,” he said.
