‘He Had A Lot Of Life To Live:’ Co-Worker Remembers Teen Shot, Killed At Midwest City Apartment Complex

A community is mourning the loss of a teenager who was shot and killed at a Midwest City apartment complex this weekend. 

A former co-worker tells News 9 Mareo Brooks, 19, was shot to death at The Ridge apartment complex near North 10th and Air Depot Boulevard in Midwest City. 

The victim’s young age is hitting close to home for former co-worker, Dalton Garrison. 

“It’s not an easy feeling being only 24 and just know somebody that young who lost their life in a blink of a moment,” said Garrison. “It’s just not a good feeling.” 

Garrison says he worked with Brooks for around two years. He remembers Brooks as generous and being a hard worker. 

“He always had a good pep in his step, he always made the worse of situations into the good times,” said Garrison. “He was always a happy and go lucky kind of person. He always made it a fun environment.” 

Midwest City Police say one person has been taken into custody. 

The suspect, who has not been identified, was also hurt in the incident, and was taken to a local hospital. 

It is unclear what led up to the shooting or how many others were involved in the incident. 

“He always wanted to make sure that everything was good for everybody,” said Garrison. “He was always trying to make sure everyone was taken care of, just a very good person.” 

As investigators process evidence and interview witnesses, a family is now forced into a holiday without a loved one. 

“He had a lot of life to live. I hope he knows that he was loved by a lot of people, especially working with him and everything,” said Garrison. “He was cared about by a lot of people.”
