A Tulsa man who tested positive twice for COVID-19 said he now fears if he gets sick a third time, his body won't be able to recover.

Scott Lee doesn’t have a job right now, not because he does not want to work. Lee fears contracting the virus again.

“I see people posting on social media about how people are lazy and don’t want to work,” Lee said. “Well, that’s not the case for everybody.”

Lee caught COVID-19 twice since the pandemic began. Lee said his preexisting medical conditions made fighting the virus more difficult to overcome.

He first contracted COVID-19 last July and missed two weeks of work.

“I started feeling really bad, chills, body aches, told my son I was going to lay down,” Lee said. “I took my temperature, and it was 104.”

Lee got COVID-19 again three months ago. This time, it included a four-day stint in a hospital.

Lee said he has since gotten the COVID-19 vaccine but said he is still fearful of getting sick again.

“Am I going to get this a third time?” Lee asked. “Is the third time going to finish me off?"

Lee said he worries about the recent rise in cases due to the Delta variant. The state’s health department is reporting approximately 300 people are hospitalized right now.

Lee’s fears have forced him to pursue only remote jobs that allow him to work from home.

Lee is the father of a son and doesn’t want to risk anything that would jeopardize taking care of him.

For now, Lee said he is living off his savings until he can secure remote employment.
