A 16-year-old is the suspect in Edmond's first homicide of the year.

The fatal stabbing happened early Saturday morning at a home near Bryant and Kickingbird Road.

Edmond police said the stabbing occurred at the victim's home. There were several people there at the time, and authorities believe a fight occurred.

They are still piecing together what led up to the stabbing, but when officers responded they found the victim stabbed multiple times.

Police said the victim, identified as 48-year-old Eddie Beesley Jr., died at the scene. Also, in the home a few young children, two teenagers, and a woman.

Police detained and later arrested the 16-year-old suspect. Authorities are not releasing his name due to his age.

Originally police said they thought the teen may have been defending a relative in the home, but now they are trying to figure out the connection between everyone at the scene.

"The connection between all these people is not completely clear right now and that's something that will come out in the course of the investigation," said Edmond's Public Information Officer, Emily Ward.

Friends spoke to News 9’s Ashley Holden about the victim.

"Sorry he was just, he didn't deserve it...." said Bobby Hartley.

They want people to know how kind and loved he was.

"He would stop anything to make sure the people that he loved and cared about were happy and OK and safe," said Angela McGahey.

Police told News 9 the teen they arrested in facing a second-degree murder complaint. They said that could change as the investigation continues.

No official charges have been filed yet.
