While the annual ringing in of the new year may have been quieter for many of us, Oklahoma City newlyweds Ryan and Katie Fast got to watch the ball drop in decadence.

“She loves flowers,” Ryan Fast said. “She loves charcuterie boards, so it’s a win on all angles.”

It’s the work of three local companies: Graze Craze, Jubilee Rentals and Wrong Number Floral.

The companies teamed up for a social media contest, awarding a healthcare worker with a romantic New Year’s Eve night in.

“We just wanted to do something special for someone, and this was a small way of us saying, ‘ Thank you so much for this year,’" Jubilee Rentals owner Kelsey Cunningham said.

“The hours that are put in by our healthcare workers, just to come home and have something put together for someone was the least we could do," Graze Craze founder Kerry Sylvester said.

Katie Fast works at OU Children’s Hospital in labor and delivery. A friend entered her in the contest. Out of nearly 200 entries, Fast was chosen at random.

Fast said there’s been a lot of prayer and tears for her in 2020, but this gesture is the perfect way to end a far from perfect year.

“To know that people still really do care about what we do, and the hard work that we’re still continuing to provide, is really nice," Katie Fast said.

As 2020 is hindsight, perhaps kindness can carry over into the new year.
