Parents of Tulsa Public students are making plans for keeping their kids busy during fall break, but one thing they won’t have to plan for is what their kids will eat.

Tuesday, parents picked up four days' worth of meals at the district's grab and go locations.

Parents said it's a life saver and the workers putting the meals together said getting the meals to the students is just as important now as when students are on campus.

“My husband.. he’s the only income right now because I lost my job and I’m doing my best and this is food for my kids to eat cause we don’t have a lot of money," said Kaitlyne Lineberry.

There were thousands of families just like Kaitline Lineberry picking up meals every day for their kids.

Lineberry said they're healthy meals, too.

“We get veggies every day and then they get like a fruit or they’ll get applesauce. And then they’ll get juice and milk," said Lineberry.

Heather Steele is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Tulsa Public and said they gave out 300,000 meals in September alone.

She said there is a lot of behind the scenes planning.

“Make sure we’re ordering enough and then they are actually going through the steps of a hot meal for today and then frozen meals for some of the other days so the kids can actually re-heat those at home," said Steele.

Tuesday's meal kit included four days' worth of food while the district goes on fall break.

Lineberry said she's thankful for the meals the how convenience of the pick up.

“It’s just warm it up. My kids know how to use the microwave. Just throw it in there and hit start," said Lineberry.

If any parents missed Tuesday's pick up, they’ll have to wait until Monday for the next meal pick up.
