On Monday, Norman's city council will discuss their approach to re-opening the city after businesses were closed due to COVID-19.

People still have a few more hours to take an online survey and weigh-in on how "Reboot Norman" should work.

Mayor Breea Clark said the three-phase approach is already in the works. She said the plan will closely align with the president's that was released just last week.

The three phases Norman is planning on using are prepare, protect and progress.

Right now, Normanites are under a stay at home order for the next nine days. During this time, Mayor Clark decided she wanted to hear from residents.

"There may be things that I may not have thought of, creative ways to social distance things that can implement to open up our community faster and still be safe," said Mayor Clark. "I think its so important for elected officials to acknowledge their blind spots. I don't pretend to have all the answers in general, let alone during a pandemic."

The city posted a survey on their website asking about social distancing measures, face masks and even antibody testing. There's also a place for residents to speak their mind and add additional comments.

The mayor said she wants people to know this process of re-opening is going to happen slowly.

"After a month at home, people need to see a light at the end of the tunnel," said Mayor Clark. "So I want Norman to know we are talking about life after COVID-19, but we're going to do it safely and we're going to do it slowly. But people need to know what that conversation looks like."

She said so far, they've received over 10,000 responses. These will be used along with the recommendations of public health officials and business owners to make decisions.

The survey closes at noon and city councilors will have access to responses ahead of Tuesday's study session. The meeting is planned to be held virtually at 5:30 p.m. Residents can stream the meeting on the city's YouTube channel
