WAGONER COUNTY -- One Broken Arrow teen is dead and another injured in a single-car accident. Lindsay Megan Haney, 16, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the single-car accident.
According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Landon Jeffrey Fritz, also 16, was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant at about 8:10 p.m. Friday on County Road 71st almost a mile east of 353rd in Wagoner County.
The vehicle ran off the side of the road and overturned several times before striking a utility pole. Fritz, who was pinned in the car for about 30 minutes, was transported by medical helicopter to St. Francis in Tulsa with head, trunk and arm injuries.
The teens were both in the Broken Arrow High School junior class, according to spokesperson Keith Isbell.
"I know Lindsay has been a student here since elementary school," Isbell said. "I have a son who went to elementary school with her."
Isbell said the school system will have a senior high counseling team in place Monday morning. Broken Arrow classes started on Wednesday of last week.
"We want to let the students and staff know that we are available and will do everything we can to help them," Isbell said.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. Seatbelts were in use by the driver but not the passenger, the report states.
