BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma -- Two Oklahomans are being treated in a Cairo, Egypt hospital after surviving a bus wreck on Sunday, December 26th, 2010, according to Reuters.
John and Helen Vanderveen of Bartlesville were part of a tour group when the bus they were in hit a dump truck on a narrow road in southern Egypt.
The crash took place about 546 miles south of Cairo according to the state news agency MENA.
Friends have told the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise newspaper, 77-year-old John Vanderveen suffered a broken jaw and his wife, 73-year-old Helen had a gash over her left eye which required stitches.
That crash killed eight other Americans.
The bus was on its way to the ancient temples of Abu Simbel in southern Egypt.
