Child's Body Recovered From Illinois River After Drowning

The body of a 6-year-old was recovered about 6 p.m. Sunday in the Illinois River south of the Chewey Bridge, according to Grand River Dam Authority officials.

The child's body was found in about 12 feet of water. GRDA, the Cherokee Nation EMS, Oaks Fire and Rescue and the Illinois River Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the incident, officials said.
