Thousands of volunteers gathered in downtown Tulsa early Friday as they got ready for the United Way's Day of Caring.
The volunteers attended a special breakfast to kick off the day, then headed out to work on various projects across Tulsa.
This is the 26th year for the Day of Caring and organizers say it continues to grow each year.
5,000 volunteers are expected help leave a positive mark on the Tulsa area. They have almost 400 projects on their agenda.
One group will help build a wheelchair ramp for man who is waiting for a heart transplant and has a hard time getting in and out of his home. Another group will clean up around the Sequoyah Elementary School. And another group will sew blankets for hospice patients.
Tulsa's Day of Caring is one of the largest days of service in the nation.
The kickoff took place at the Tulsa Public Library's downtown courtyard.
