A McIntosh County man was arrested after telling authorities he stabbed a dog in the neck, and when that failed he said he hit the dog with a hammer in the head ten times before leaving it to die. Authorities found the dog covered in blood at 23-year-old Jordan Smith's home, still alive.
But veterinary officials were forced to euthanize the dog because of the severity of its injuries. The dog suffered broken bones to the face and head because of the blunt force trauma.
Smith's bond was set at $50,000 at the McIntosh County Criminal Justice Center. His first court appearance will be Wednesday.
