A flood filled May has crews putting in extra hours along the Oklahoma River clearing debris.

“Ice boxes and shopping carts,” said worker Kevin Lewis about a few unusual items being found.

“Other than couches and lawn chairs, it's just a whole bunch of cups and a lot of debris,” adds Lewis.

A lot of major tributaries flow into the Oklahoma River so whenever crews have had the chance they scoop up the debris.

On Wednesday, crews were using one barge to scoop debris and another barge with a conveyor belt to fish out loose trash.

The city has a total of four barges they can use to the clear the clutter.

“We've already removed over 27 tons of debris from the river this month alone. In an average year we remove about 150,” said OKC Director of Public Works Eric Wenger.
