Do you have a fire escape plan in place? If you don't, firefighters want you to get one together just in time for the winter season.
According to PreventFire.com, 2,500 Americans are killed in house or apartment fires each year. If your dwelling should ignite, firefighters want to make sure you've got a plan in place.
"All year long," says Benny Fulkerson, Oklahoma City Fire's Public Information Officer, "we talk about the importance of having a fire escape plan and being prepared in your own home because that's where we are losing the most people in house fires."
About half of home fire deaths occur between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., while residents are asleep.
If you don't have a plan and want to get one together, you can head to the OKC Fire Department's facebook page and print off an escape plans. You'll be able to map out your home's windows and doors. Once you're done, make sure to practice it with your family at least twice a year.
