Wednesday marks the first anniversary of the mass shootings at Virginia Tech that claimed 32 lives. The university said they would mark the somber occasion with a morning ceremony and moment of silence at noon, followed by the tolling of the bells.
However, the horror of the shootings has not tarnished the school's image with potential freshmen.
"We actually were over subscribed for our first year class. We had to buy back beds as it were from some of our upper-class students in order to house our first-year students," said a Virginia Tech spokesperson.
Oklahoma City Community College is commemorating the anniversary with a Meet Your First Responder day. Students and staff can find out more about campus security and what to do in an emergency from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main plaza.
