VALLEY BROOK, Oklahoma -- A Valley Brook police officer shot a suspect while trying to serve the man a warrant Thursday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened at about 3 p.m. Two Valley Brook officers arrived at a home, 1609 S.E. 61st Street, to arrest Robert Dale Phipps, 42, for felony domestic abuse charges.
When Phipps saw police arrive at his home, he tried to run out the back door. An officer confronted him and he ran back inside. The officer followed Phipps inside the house and fired one shot, striking the man in the upper body.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office has been called in to investigate the incident.
"Valley Brook called us in as an outside agency to conduct the investigation for them," said Mark Myers, with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department.
Phipps was taken to OU Medical Center and has been released after being treated. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on the warrant charges and new charges related to this incident. The Valley Brook Police Department is filing charges on the suspect.
The names of the officers and the reason for the shooting were not released.
