OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett is a finalist for World Mayor 2010. The prize is given by City Mayors, an international nonprofit think tank for urban issues.
Among the 25 finalists Cornett joins Newark, NJ Mayor Cory Booker as the only two finalists from the United States. Initially, 800 mayors from around the world were nominated.
Residents can support Mayor Cornett by voting for him online at the World Mayor Web site.
"Obviously, Oklahoma City is gaining more and more attention," said Mayor Cornett. "This is an opportunity to share the credit for our city's success with the City Council, City staff, and ultimately the citizens themselves."
Previous winners of the World Mayor Prize include the mayors of Tirana, Albania; Athens, Greece; and Cape Town, South Africa.
City Mayors was established in 2003 and is based online at www.citymayors.com, and physically in the United Kingdom and Germany.
