WYANDOTTE, OKLAHOMA -- A funeral service will be Wednesday morning at the Wyandotte High School gym for a 9-year-old student who died last Thursday after being injured in a playground equipment accident.
Alyssa Faye Avila was a student of Wyandotte Elementary School.
The funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, with the burial following the service in the Macedonia Cemetery in Missouri.
The State Medical Examiner's Office classified Avila's death as "undetermined," saying there were no clear signs of trauma that one would expect with a fatal injury. The Wyandotte Police Chief said that doesn't eliminate the possibility of a head injury.
Avila's death prompted schools across Oklahoma to make their X-Waves off limits out of concern for student safety.
A memorial fund for Alyssa has been set up at the Bank of Wyandotte to help with expenses.
