WELLSTON, Oklahoma -- The city of Wellston's EMS has until the end of the year to show financial improvements or it'll be forced to shut down services.
The announcement was made at a city council meeting in Wellston Thursday evening.
Wellston Emergency Medical Services are under a financial strain, but if the city's only ambulance is taken out of service, citizens would have to wait for medics to arrive from Chandler, Shawnee or even Stillwater, which also creates a bigger problem for those agencies.
The Wellston City Council said it all boils down to money.
The biggest issue for the department is the service area which spans nearly 300 square miles in Lincoln County.
