OKLAHOMA CITY -- There may be still be a chance to bring Grand Prix racing to Oklahoma, and it could be in the state by 2012.
The Oklahoma City Council voted down a deal earlier this year to bring the sport to downtown Oklahoma City, but now Oklahoma County commissioners are throwing their support behind Oklahoma City Motorsports.
If everything goes as planned, the Grand Prix could be speeding through Oklahoma City's Adventure District.
"To be able to bring in an event, a marquee event, and tie all these attractions together for a week long of fun and activities and entertainment and sports, it just seemed the natural place to host the race," said Mike McAuliffe, Oklahoma City Motor Sports CEO.
According to supporters, a Grand Prix race would bring in an estimated $15 to $20 million in year one.
