SPENCER, Oklahoma -- Spencer citizens were finally able to speak their minds Thursday evening after concerns over the city's police department.
The Spencer City Council met to discuss staffing at the police department. Last week residents voiced concerns over the lack of officers patrolling the streets, but they were silenced because the issue wasn't on the agenda.
However, Thursday the residents were able to address the council with their concerns.
"Us as citizens we're not safe. They're having to cover Choctaw, Nicoma Park, Luther, Forest Park and county to come in and cover us. I've spoken to the other town. It's taking away from the other towns," said Tonya Hemkin, Spencer resident.
It has been reported that the city manager won't approve overtime for officers due to a budget shortfall.
