BLANCHARD, Oklahoma -- A 27-year-old Blanchard woman is accused of playing a role in a child's death in Grady County. Charges were filed against Kasey Duverney in the death investigation of her boyfriend's son, Trevor Heidling.
According to authorities in Grady County, in April 2010 the baby's father, Christopher Heidling, was at Deverney's home and left for work. Heidling asked Duverney to watch after his son while he was working.
Later that afternoon, Duverney called 911 and told officers "the baby is dead." Investigators say she found the infant hanging from the bed stuck between the bed railing and the mattress. Court documents say the baby squirmed into a position where he ultimately suffocated and died.
The Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation caused by being caught between a bed railing and mattress.
Duverney is facing one count of child neglect and one count of second degree manslaughter because, according to investigators, Duverney failed to provide the proper care and supervision of Trevor Heidling by placing him in an bed which was not safe for an infant.
Duverney, who has not been arrested, faces up to life in prison if found guilty on the child neglect charge.
