OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the life in prison sentence of a man convicted of first-degree murder for a 2007 fatal shooting.
In Thursday's opinion, the court affirmed the conviction and sentence of Donte Deshawn Robinson. The court also denied Robinson's request for a new trial.
An Oklahoma County jury found Robinson guilty in 2008 in the Feb. 20, 2007, slaying of 20-year-old Gregory Terrell Lucas. The panel recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole.
Evidence in the case indicated Lucas was killed after he exchanged words with another man outside a southwest Oklahoma City convenience store.
Robinson told investigators he shot Lucas because he thought he had a gun. But prosecutors pointed out that Lucas was shot in the back.
