OKLAHOMA CITY -- Officials in Oklahoma and Lincoln Counties decided Wednesday to implement burn bans because of dangerously dry conditions in the state and the high possibility of grass fires.
The Oklahoma County Board of Commissioners met Wednesday morning. During the emergency meeting, they voted to enact a county-wide burn ban through Wednesday of next week for Oklahoma County.The only exception is for outdoor cooking using approved equipment.
Anyone caught violating the ban in Oklahoma County could be fined up to $500 and sentenced to up to a year in jail.
The Lincoln County burn ban is in effect for 30 days.
