OKLAHOMA CITY – Over 100 gang members are off the streets of Oklahoma County and behind bars thanks to the "Operation Street Sweep", a joint law enforcement investigation that focuses on arresting violent gang members with active warrants.
U.S. Marshal Charles T. Weeks II said Monday that the nearly 1-month-long investigation netted a total of 101 gang members, 7027 grams of narcotics, and nearly $21,000 from dangerous felons.
"I appreciate the hard work put in by the men and women who conducted this operation," said John Whetsel, Oklahoma County Sheriff. "We were able to make the streets much safer for the local community."
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, this was the first multi-agency event ever held in Oklahoma County targeting gang members.
Officials said Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Attorney General's Office, The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, U.S. Marshal's Service, Oklahoma City Police Department, and the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office all participated in the investigation.
