Monster trucks normally bring destruction, but this week some Monster Jam drivers brought a positive message to children dealing with medical issues.
Charles Beens drives "Monster Mutt" in the Monster Jam tour, and Scott Buetow is "Iron Man's" driver. While both have motor sports backgrounds, they're both fairly new to the tour. Both drivers spent time with patients at Children's Hospital this week.
"It's one of the greatest things about being in this sport," said Scott Buetow. "They're our biggest fans and we're their biggest fans."
Beens and Buetow also brought the new "Monster Jam Bead of Courage" to hand out to young patients. Beads of Courage is a nationwide program where customized beads are given to children to recognize milestones on their journey to wellness. The Monster Jam Bead also came with pieces to build the "Monster Jam Thriller Necklace."
Bailey Johns was excited to get his beads. Johns is on an extended stay at Children's Hospital while he fights colon cancer. He's also a big Monster Jam fan.
"They do more tricks than any other vehicle I've ever seen," said Johns. "More than ATVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles."
Beens has a personal connection to the kids' plight. He was hit by a drunk driver as a child and endured a long hospital stay of his own.
"I do a lot of work for the hospital that saved my life back home," Beens said. "There's nothing more satisfying than helping a kid, I think everybody should."
