Edmond police, along with Edmond public schools and local mental health care agencies, will host a suicide prevention summit on April 23.
The Edmond Community Suicide Prevention Summit will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the University of Central Oklahoma's Nigh Center Constitution Hall. It is open to all community members.
According to event organizers, officials decided to host this event due to an alarming number of suicides and attempted suicides in the community.

The Summit will cover the following topics:
1. QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer) which equips ordinary residents with the tools needed to help a friend or loved one who, might be suicidal, receive much needed help.
2. Parents Helping Parents -- A grassroots organization that supplies resources to parents struggling with a child addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
3. HELP – is similar to QPR but is designed for children who recognize a friend or loved one who needs help.
4. Signs & Symptoms of Adolescent Depression – Recognizing childhood depression which often appears much differently than that of adult depression.
5. Youth Suicide Prevention Tool Kit – Information and tools for youth suicide prevention.
6. Worried About Your Friend – Recognize and respond to friends in distress.
