I spent a couple of hours On Wednesday watching the Capitol Hill hearing on what went wrong in Benghazi, Libya that resulted in the murders of our ambassador and three other Americans. It didn't take long to come to some disturbing conclusions.
First, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's State department didn't heed months of repeated warnings from diplomats in Libya, including the now murdered ambassador, that the country was growing increasingly violent and dangerous.
Second, despite requests from its own security expert at the consul in Benghazi, the State Department pulled out the 16-member highly trained American military team protecting the compound and replaced them with far less competent Libyan militiamen.
And third, our government was somehow caught unprepared to protect our interests in Al Qaeda's backyard on the 11th anniversary of September 11.
The experts who testified Wednesday, even the Undersecretary of State said they believed the very next day it was a planned terrorist attack. Yet for several days the White House, the State Department, and our UN Ambassador said all indications were our people were attacked unpredictably because a protest about that stupid anti-Islamic movie spun out of control.
There was no protest. But there are a lot of questions to be answered.
