Sheriff's deputies arrest two men after finding them driving a car that had been reported stolen.
Deputies arrested Saul Banda, 18, and Randel Ivan Perez-Ortiz, 21, Thursday afternoon after they noticed a 1997 red Honda Civic with a defective brake light. The deputy ran the cars tag through a national crime database and the vehicle was reported stolen.
The deputy stopped the stolen vehicle at S.W. 29th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The driver, Banda, told the deputy that he borrowed the car from his cousin. Banda could not remember his cousin's name, nor did he know the address or phone number of his "cousin."
Banda was arrested and booked on complaints of possession of a stolen vehicle, no state driver's license and defective equipment.
The passenger, Perez-Ortiz, was arrested and booked on a complaint of possession of a stolen vehicle.
Banda is in custody on a $3,500 bail, and Perez-Ortiz on $2,000 bail.
