Oklahoma City Police are investigating the death of a man who was taken into custody after neighbors reported he was trying to break in to several houses and cars.
Around 9:45 p.m. Monday, neighbors in the area of S.E. 32nd Street and Byers called to report the man's suspicious activity. A few minutes later, several more 911 calls indicated residents had taken the man into custody and were waiting for officers to arrive. Some witnesses told News 9 the man appeared to be extremely intoxicated.
When police arrived at the scene, they took the man into custody. Because of his condition, officers immediately called for an EMSA crew. The Oklahoma City Police Department says although the man had no visible injuries, he stopped breathing soon after police arrived but before paramedics got to the scene.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour after calls began coming into 911. Police later discovered he had outstanding felony warrants, and the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen.
The man's name has not been released yet. Police are still trying to notify his family. Police will only say he was a white male who was approximately 35 years old.
