Have you ever been to an event at the state capitol or even a college campus and picked up a note pad or pen? Turns out, paying for these government giveaways, with agency or college logos on them, is coming out of our pockets.
In the 2011 fiscal year, we spent $12,896,416 on advertising and promotional expenses. That includes ads placed in newspapers and magazines, as well as promotional items used for marketing purposes.
Two colleges and one agency make up for more than half of the expenses: The University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and The Lottery Commission.
Here are the totals from all 116 state agencies and colleges.
