Oklahoma State Athletic Director Mike Holder, pleased with the AstroTurf installed a year ago in the Sherman Smith indoor practice facility, announced the university will replace the turf in Boone Pickens Stadium.
Installation of the 76,000 square-foot field is set to begin on May 12th. AstroTurf describes the cutting-edge ‘3D Decade' product as "omega-shaped Horseshoe fiber for structural resiliency and AstroTurf's patented RootZone technology, a sub layer of texturized nylon which stabilizes the sand and rubber infill and prevents splash and migration."
The first game on the new field will be Sept. 6 against Missouri State.
Fans can watch the project with continuous live photography on AstroTurf's site. Just don't expect see Gundy tipping his hand as to which quarterback is getting first-string reps throughout the summer.
