A little boy is back at home with his family after going missing Wednesday morning in Del City.

Police said they found him wandering around in the streets with a woman, who was drunk.

"I started freaking out at first," said Jordan Deer, the little boy's mother. "And I started looking around and checked under the girls beds because I have 2 step daughters."

Jordan Deer said she woke up to find her 5-year-old-son Gerald missing from their home at the Tinker Del Village Apartments around 8:00 a.m.

Deer went across the complex to see if he had gone to her sister's house, but he wasn't there either.

Jordan says her son never wandered off before so she got concerned and called police, who started scouring the area.

Soon they found little Gerald walking along South Vickie drive with a 36-year-old woman about a mile away from his home.

Police identified her as Carmen McDonald, 36.

McDonald told police she found the 5-year-old outside a convenience store near the apartment complex and took him home with her about 6 blocks away to give him something to eat.

"We're trying to find out what happened during that hour hour and a half this child was missing," said Del City Police Captain Jody Suit.

"It just don't make no sense to me," said Rebecca Hamilton, the little boy's aunt. "She should have called police the minute she found him!"

Hamilton still doesn't understand why McDonald did what she did.

"I mean her heart may have been in the right place, but it's just the wrong way that she did it," said Hamilton.

Both Jordan and Rebecca are just thankful little Gerald is back home.

"I'd just like to thank the police department and fire department for finding him, and that he's safe," said Deere.

Del City police say McDonald will face a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication since it does not appear she acted with any malice in this case.

News 9 did some digging and found that McDonald had been in jail before, once in 2009 for domestic abuse and another time for driving under the influence.
