One suspect is dead, and another is in custody Saturday morning after an officer-involved shooting in Norman.
The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting that happened near the intersection of Boyd Street and 24th Avenue S.W.
According to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Spokesperson, Meghan McCormick, a deputy stopped a GMC Yukon for a traffic violation. Two men were inside the SUV. K-9 arrived at the traffic stop to help.
McCormick said the driver admitted to deputies that there was a gun and drugs inside of the vehicle. Deputies begin to search the vehicle, when the passenger ran to the K-9 deputy's patrol car and got inside.
One deputy ran after the suspect and tried to get him out of the patrol car. The suspect attempted to run over the deputy and he was dragged for a short distance. The other deputy on scene shot at the suspect.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. One officer was treated for minor injuries, and both are currently on paid administrative leave, according to authorities.
The driver of the SUV was arrested on drug complaints and booked into the Cleveland County Jail.
The intersection at 24th and Boyd has been closed to traffic, as well as the area between W. Boyd Street and W. Brooks Street.
