An Elmore City man has been convicted of killing another man then cutting up the body and stuffing the remains in cement-filled buckets.

The Garvin County court clerk's office said a jury on Thursday found Justin Hammer guilty of first-degree murder in the August 2012 death of Brandon Duran and recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole. Sentencing is set for Oct. 6.

Hammer testified that he shot Duran twice in self-defense after Duran forced his way into Hammer's home and made threats because of Hammer's relationship with Duran's ex-wife. Hammer said he feared Duran because he thought he was a member of a motorcycle gang. Duran's mother testified that he was not a member of a gang.
