Oklahoma City-based hip hop artist Jabee Williams recently received an Emmy for his work promoting Science Museum Oklahoma.

Williams grew up on the city's northeast side and has worked to gain regional and national recognition for his musical talents.  He teamed up with Funnel Design Group, a local marketing firm, to create a video promoting Science Museum Oklahoma.

The goal of the "What If" song and video is to push kids to think critically and recently landed Williams and the team at Funnel Design Group a Heartland Emmy Award for "Best Commercial Spot."

"A lot of times hip hop music gets a bad rap because of the content and language.  I don't use any bad language in my music." said Williams during an interview this week with News 9's Rachel Calderon. "It's just traditional hip hop and it's just my story.  It's honest.  It's truth."

Williams started writing music at the age of 7 and released an album last December.

"I'm grateful for this success and my loyal fan base," Williams said.

Williams is a graduate of Northwest Classen High School and was once homeless.  He's hoping his story is an inspiration for others.

If you want to see Williams perform live you can catch him at H&8th in Oklahoma City on Friday August 29.
